1) Can a person be shocked? No. Neurofeeodback only collects information. Nothing is ever put into the brain. Sensors are placed on the scalp to collect the naturally occurring electrical brainwave activity. These small electrical measurements are transformed into sound and visual feedback by computer software and hardware. The measurements cause absolutely no discomfort.
2) If Neurofeedback is exercise for the brain, do I have to continue forever? Happily, results are long lasting because brain function creates permanently learned patterns. Unlike body muscles which need continuous exercise, brain exercise enjoys the benefit of long term learning. Follow up studies are tracking neurofeedback results lasting longer than a decade of stability.
3) Can Neurofeedback be started while on medication? Yes. Neurofeedback is commonly used with traditional therapies and medication. Your prescribing physician should be made aware of neurofeedback training because neurofeedback can result in reduced prescription needs. As the brain becomes more capable of self regulation, it is common to require less medication.
4.) How many sessions will be required? After initial consultation an evaluation generally outlines a training plan with an estimated number of sessions. Certain applications of neurofeedback are more predictable, i.e. Neurofeedback "The 20 Hour Solution" for ADHD references a guideline of approximately 20 hours of training anticipated to stabalize new brain patterns for many ADHD trainees.
5.) How much does neurofeedback cost? Affordable neurofeedback is our commitiment. With packaged sessions, clients may typically arrange a program to match monthly budget. We offer some full scholarships based upon need.
